1. Jumanji
This American fantasy adventure also doubles as a comedy film and was released in 1995. The ride this movie takes us on will probably feel weary about the games we play and what could be a resulting consequence.
Well, maybe not. But if Judy and Peter Shepherd knew what was trapped inside the Jumanji game before they played it, they may have changed their mind and sought another form of entertainment.
To cut a long story short, in 1969, a man named Alan Parrish came across ‘Jumanji’, a dangerous and unique board game that entrapped him in a forest in a mythical realm.
However, when the orphaned siblings, Judy and Peter stumbled upon the Jumanji and played it, Alan Parrish was released from the mythical realm, that began the most enthralling adventure ever.
Both parts of this story have plenty of adventures to take one on so buckle up for it.
Jumanji has a 7.1/10 IMDb rating and 63% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
2. Rebel Moon: (A Child of Fire & The Scargiver)
The first part of the Rebel Moon franchise is known as ‘A Child of Fire’ and tells the story of Kora, a former Imperium soldier who is now, against said army because they threaten to cause terror in a village on the moon known as Veldt.
The army is under the command of the Motherworld which rules the fictional galaxy this film is set in.
Kora’s desire and passion to fight against and win the Imperium, causes her to travel far and wide the galaxy, trying to recruit warriors to join her cause.
This first part of Rebel Moon was released on Netflix On December 22, 2023.
The second part of the Rebel Moon franchise is known as Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. It was released on April 19, 2024, and follows the plot of defense and love. In this chapter, Kora and her army of warriors from across the galaxy, return to the village on the moon of Veldt.
She and her crew try to safeguard the grains the Imperium is after, as well as fight to defend themselves and their land. Kora also falls in love with a fellow warrior and reveals many things about her former life to her lover.
‘The Director’s Cut’ for the first one was released on August 2, 2024, is an R-rated version of the Rebel Moon, and was titled Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood.
The Scargiver also has a Director’s Cut released on the same day as ‘Chalice of Blood’ but titled ‘Curse of Forgiveness’. The Director’s cut received more good reviews than the initially released versions.
All of these are available to watch on Netflix as of August 2024. This movie has a 5.6/10 IMDb rating and a 22% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
3. Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie
Spongebob Squarepants lovers, here is something interesting for you. This is a story based on the animated TV series ‘Spongebob Squarepants’. It focuses on Sandy Cheeks and Spongebob as they travel to Sandycheek’s hometown, Texas, to save Bikini Bottom from the evil CEO.
Saving Bikini Bottom was one of the many spinoff movies ViacomCBS promised to release in 2020.
It was released on Netflix on August 2, 2024, although there was a leaked upload on X (formerly known as Twitter) on January 21, 2024.
It has a 3.7/10 IMDb rating and a 62% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
4. World War Z
Is World War Z worth watching? But for the fact that this movie list isn’t following any order, this may have taken the first spot.
World War Z is undoubtedly one of the best adventure movies on Netflix and out there. Ever since its release in 2013, it has continued to live up to its hype and acclaim.
The captivating film gives a perspective of what could possibly happen during a Zombie apocalypse. Humanity’s safety then falls into the hands of a former UN investigator who goes on a mission to find the source of the zombie pandemic and perhaps a cure.
I know we have seen many such movies but when Brad Pitt’s production company ‘Plan B Entertainment’ got the rights to produce the 2007-authored novel by Brooks, we knew we were in for some thrilling adventure.
Even if you haven’t read the novel, be certain that you will be duly carried along with this movie. Also bear in mind that for the almost 2-hour-long duration, you may not be able to tear your eyes off the screen, for the sake of FOMO.
This movie has a 7.0/10 IMDb rating and a 67% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
5. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Did you know that there are other ‘spider people’? Well, there are in the Spider-verse! The plot of this animated superhero film is centered around Spider-man in a multiverse and his quest to save New York City from the supervillain known as ‘The Kingpin’.
Miles Morales (Spider-man) had to team up with other Spider-people from parallel universes to fight this war and save NYC.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse is the first animated film of the Spider-Man franchise and was released in December 2018.
The ratings for this American animated movie are 95% on Rotten Tomatoes Score and 8.6/10 on IMDb. Amazing, right? Definitely one of the best adventure movies on Netflix right now.
6. Atlas
In Atlas, adventure marries Sci-fi. In what initially started as a hatred for an artificial intelligence known as Harlan, the main character realizes that if she needed to achieve one of her utmost desires, she may have to resort to the use of AI to apprehend the robot gone wild.
This story is quite timely as its release on Netflix on May 24, 2024, coincides with the recent wave of Artificial Intelligence.
Atlas, though still new to our screens, has a 5.6/10 IMDb rating with a 19% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
7. Ultraman: Rising
Another great 2024 movie is Ultraman: Rising released on June 14, 2024. It takes us through the adventure of a professional baseball player who disappears after an unfortunate miss at winning a championship in America.
Although news had it that his sudden disappearance was due to some unfinished business, the reality was that he had to go fight a giant monster known as Kaiju.
You may want to believe that fighting the Kaiju was the peak of this movie but absolutely not! There are a lot of other adventures in between and after the fight. Kenji ‘Ken’ Sato, the main character and superhero who also doubled as the baseball player in disguise, had many more battles to fight and challenges to overcome.
This is an adventure movie filled with lots of many more adventures.
The ratings of this movie trickle from a 6.9/10 IMDb rating to an 83% Rotten Tomatoes Score.
8. Dracula: Untold
This was released in 2014 and is typically known as an action-horror film about the young prince Vlad Tepes who turned into a feared creature. Vlad became a monster so he could get powers to save his family and the people of his kingdom.
When the lives of his family and 1000 boys of his kingdom were at stake, the main character, Vlad, thought it best to save them from Turks who demanded such an outrageous price, by seeking the power of Dracula, a terrible beast.
On IMDb, this movie got a 6.2/10 rating and on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 25% Score.
9. The Adam Project
Within the first weekend of the release of this movie in the United States of America, about 3 million households watched The Adam Project.
This is another Sci-fi-meets-futuristic-adventure movie. It is about a fighter pilot who steals a time jet to go back 32 years into the past so he can save his wife who was assassinated by Sorian, the leader of the dystopian world.
During the journey back, he gets injured and lands in the year 2022 instead of the desired 2018 and has to face his younger self of 2022.
Future Adam and young Adam then team up to fight Sorian and her assistant and during this battle, Future Adam uncovers the mystery behind his wife’s death.
This film has a 68% Rotten Tomatoes Score while IMDb rated it a 6.2/10.
10. Divergent
This movie may have been released 10 years ago but it is still one that is on a lot of tongues and cannot be ignored when talking about adventurous movies, even in years to come.
In a bid to save the Divergents from a plot to destroy them, the main characters, Tris and Four, had to work together to find out the reason behind the plot and what must be done to prevent the pending doom.
This movie also falls into the sci-fi & adventure genre and is based on Veronica Roth's novel of the same name released in 2011. The setting is a futuristic dystopian society in Chicago which was divided into 5 factions.
Divergent has a 41% Rotten Tomatoes Score and a 6.6/10 IMDb rating.
The film is believed to have a great storyline with just decent cinematography.
